On October 5, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Washim in Maharashtra to honor the Banjara community’s rich cultural heritage. During his visit, he played the traditional ‘nangara’ drum, emphasizing its significant role in Banjara culture. He stated, “In Washim, tried my hand at the Nangara, which has a very special place in the great Banjara culture. Our Government will make every possible effort to make this culture even more popular in the times to come.”

The Prime Minister inaugurated the Banjara Virasat Museum, a four-story facility featuring 13 galleries that showcase the community’s legacy. He also paid tributes at the memorials of Sant Sevalal Maharaj and Sant Ramrao Maharaj, revered spiritual leaders of the Banjara community. Additionally, he offered prayers at the Jagdamba Mata temple in Poharadevi.
