A Step Towards Cultural Preservation: PM Modi Inaugurates Banjara Virasat Museum

On October 5, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Banjara Virasat Museum in Pohardevi, Washim district, Maharashtra. This museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Banjara community, a group of nomadic tribes originally from Rajasthan who have settled in various states of India.

The four-story museum features 13 galleries that depict the Banjara legacy through portraits of community leaders and artefacts highlighting their way of life. The museum also includes advanced technology, such as a flying theatre, moving platform, and rumbling platform, offering visitors an immersive experience.

Upon his arrival in Washim, Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes to the memorials of Sant Sevalal Maharaj and Sant Ramrao Maharaj, both revered spiritual leaders of the Banjara community. He also performed darshan and pooja at the Jagdamba Temple in Poharadevi.

Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister addressed a gathering in Washim, where he launched various initiatives related to the agricultural and animal husbandry sectors, valued at approximately ₹23,300 crore. These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure and support for farmers and the Banjara community in the region.

The establishment of the Banjara Virasat Museum marks a significant step in preserving the cultural identity of the Banjara community and promoting tourism in the region. It stands as a testament to the community’s resilience and rich traditions, offering visitors a deep insight into their history and way of life.
